The rules, and where they come from

| Rule | PUBG | | --- | --- | | Length | 4–16 characters | | Letters, at least | 4 | | Capitals, lowercase, digits | allowed | | Hyphen and underscore | allowed | | Hyphen or underscore at the start | not allowed | | Cyrillic | not allowed |

The first two are different requirements. ab12 is long enough and still fails: it has two letters. The generator checks both.

The name costs money

Changing a PUBG name needs a paid item, bought in game or on Steam. That changes the price of a bad choice: a name picked in a hurry stays until you buy another change. Generate more than you need and pick one you will still want.

On how current this is

PUBG's support article is the only published statement of these rules and it has not been touched in years. We generate strictly against it, but if the game refuses something the article allows, that is the reason. Tell us and we will fix it.

Questions

What are PUBG's rules?+

From PUBG Support: 4 to 16 characters with a minimum of four letters; capitals, lowercase, digits, hyphen and underscore are allowed; a hyphen or underscore may not start the name. Everything here is generated against that set.

Why 'at least four letters' when the minimum is already four characters?+

They are two separate requirements and the second is stricter. ab12 is four characters but only two letters, and the game refuses it. The generator counts letters separately from length.

Can a hyphen end the name?+

Yes. The rule forbids only the start — iron-wolf_ passes, _ironwolf does not. That is why it is a separate condition here rather than a blanket ban at both ends.

Does a name change cost anything?+

Yes — it needs a nickname change card, bought in the in-game store or on Steam. So choose carefully: your old name stays blocked to other players for seven days afterwards, but it does not come back to you for free either.

How current are these rules?+

This is PUBG's official support article and the only published statement of the rules, but it has not been updated in years. If the game refuses something the article allows, that is why, not the generator.
